Hilda E. Lankard

Hilda Lankard, age 92, was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, September 5, 2026. She died peacefully at her home in the company of her first-born, Mark, who came back into her life on March 7, 2014, and in the care of his blessing of a wife, Sondra.

Hilda Elizabeth Rockers was born on October 4, 1933, to Ed and Lena (Wolken) Rockers, the 10th of 11 children in Scipio. She attended East Scipio school and Greeley High school, graduating in May 1951.

Hilda was united in marriage to Donald Glen Lankard on November 25, 1954, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio. This union was blessed with five children- Glenda, Janet, Nancy, Helen and Don Jr. Hilda stayed home and raised her kids and helped raise many more by babysitting, until her youngest started school. She worked in housekeeping at the Anderson County Hospital for many years.

Hilda loved her God, going to church, saying the rosary, always shared her faith, and said her daily devotions.

Hilda also loved her handsome husband, Don, her family, holding babies, feeding hungry people, puzzles, bowling, playing games around the table- and winning!- gambling at casinos- and winning!-, family reunions, holidays, telling stories from her amazing memory, her Hyatt Club ladies, embroidering, neighbors and visitors at her door, supporting the VFW through a long standing membership of the Ladies Auxiliary, sitting on the deck, music and singing and clapping and tapping and clicking and snapping, and many adventurous travels with Don.

Hilda was known as a kind soul with a delightful sense of humor who chose to see the good in everyone. To know her made us better people and we are blessed to have had her in our family as the person who remembered everything.

She is preceded in death by a multitude of loved ones ready to greet her. Hilda is survived by too many family, loved ones, neighbors, friends, co- workers and acquaintances to count.

Now she has traveled just beyond the moon to dance among the stars with Don. As Hilda would say, "Remember you are loved and come to me safe, sweet dreams and God Bless You!"

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery. Hilda's family will greet friends following the rosary at 6:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the church.
