Joe Dale Ketcher

Joe Dale Ketcher, 89, of Iola, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Joe was born on June 22, 1937, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Hubert Eugene and Sylvia Ketcher. Born at his grandmother's home, Joe spent his childhood in Miami, where he attended school through most of his high school years.

During his senior year of high school, Joe's family relocated to the Yates Center area after his father accepted work on a local farm. They later settled in LaHarpe, Kansas, where Joe completed his education. It was there that he met Ruth Marie Huston, the young woman who would become the love of his life.

Ruth often smiled as she recalled that first day, saying, "I saw him walk across the floor and fell in love with him right then." Although she insisted she was only fifteen years old and too young to date, Joe wasn't easily discouraged. Determined to win her over, he gathered the courage to ask Ruth's mother for permission to take her on a date, and she said yes. That first date marked the beginning of a remarkable love story.

On March 27, 1957, Joe and Ruth eloped to Miami, Oklahoma, where they were married. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and unwavering love for one another, sharing sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage.

Joe was truly a jack of all trades, never afraid to embrace new opportunities or serve others in different ways. Throughout his life, he faithfully served as a minister, worked in real estate, spent many years in the finance and insurance industries, including with Iola Finance, and wore many other hats along the way. No matter where life led him, Joe approached every endeavor with integrity, compassion, and a tireless work ethic.

To know Joe was to know a man of quiet strength, steadfast character, and genuine kindness. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing words of encouragement, or simply being present for those who needed him, Joe left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Marie Ketcher (Huston); his son, Steven Ketcher and wife, Linda; his daughter, Lynda Suzanne Ping and husband, James; his grandchildren, Kryssie Burke, James Ryan Burke and wife, Brandi, Stephanie Moler and husband, Jeff; his step-grandsons, Jason Crable and partner, Misty, Aaron and Wife Amy Ping, and Brandon Ping; several great-grandchildren; his brother, Lonnie Ketcher; his sisters, Barbara Ketcher and Wanda Jean Ketcher; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Eugene and Sylvia Ketcher; his brother, Hubert Eugene Ketcher; his brother, Dennis Russell Ketcher; and his sister, Cynthia Bess Ketcher.

Though Joe's career carried him through many different paths, his greatest accomplishment was never found in the titles he held but in the lives he touched. What began as a young man gathering the courage to ask a fifteen-year-old girl's mother for permission to take her on a date became a love story that lasted nearly seven decades. Together, Joe and Ruth built a family founded on love, faith, and perseverance: a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

Joe's gentle spirit, unwavering faith, dependable nature, and enduring love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life for Joe Dale Ketcher will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 U.S. Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the foyer of the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) and may be left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
