Carol Beth James, 93, Iola, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends Friday, September 12, 2014 at Moran Manor in Moran, Kansas. Carol Beth was born February 4, 1921 in Iola, the daughter of Charles and Artie Newman. She graduated from Iola Senior High School in 1939 and attended Iola Jr. College. On April 6, 1943 Carol Beth married Howard James and they made their home in Iola. She worked as the Librarian during war time at the Iola Junior High and later worked at the Idea Shop. Howard preceded her in death on October 17, 1987. Carol Beth was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, EHU After 5 and Iola Music Club. She was active in numerous community activities. Survivors include a daughter, Beth Ann Turner and husband Max and one granddaughter Christina Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and her husband. Visitation will be at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel Tuesday, September 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola. Memorial contributions are suggested to Moran Manor Activity Fund or American Heart Association.
