Allen David Prior, age 72 of Amarillo, Texas, died on Saturday, March 1, 2008, following a complicated illness of nearly four years. Allen David Prior was born to Carl and Norma (Swenson) Prior on February 23, 1936, in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from East High School in Denver and then attended BYU in Provo, Utah, for one term. Allen was a devout lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Most recently he was a member of the Amarillo Fourth Ward. He married Patricia Nolan on August 22, 1973 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had lived the past twenty years in Amarillo, Texas. Allen had a great love of animals. Most of his working career was spent in ranching and dairy farming. Allen considered being a father and grandfather the crowning accomplishments of his lifetime. He actively pursued knot tying as a hobby and had become quite expert at it. Allen was known fondly as Bear or Grandpa Bear by those close to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Carl and his stepson Sam Compton. Survivors include his wife Patricia of Amarillo; a daughter Marjorie Armstrong and husband Kevin, and their two children Kevin Allen and Elizabeth Sage Armstrong of San Angelo, Texas; Two stepsons, Danny Compton of Anchorage, Alaska; and Alex Compton and wife Denise of Westphalia, Kansas; a brother Paul Prior of Spanish Fork, Utah; a cousin Karolyn Pendleton of Salt Lake City, Utah and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial and graveside services will be held in Westphalia, Kansas on April 12, 2008. Feuerborn Family Funeral Service of Garnett, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
