Alta E. "Betty" Turner, age 78, of Welda, passed away November 1, 2008 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. She was born June 28, 1930, in the rural area of Garnett, the daughter of Emmett and Fern (Coberly) Christy. From the age of three to eight, she lived in the Central City area moving to Maple Grove area. Following that time, they lived in the Welda area moving to Garnett. At age twelve, they moved to California moving back to the Garnett and Welda area again at the age of sixteen. Betty graduated from Welda High School in 1948. She worked as a cook at the Rocky Roost Caf. Betty married Charles Junior Turner on July 16, 1948 at Garnett. They had three children; Charlene who was born in 1949; Charles who was born in 1950; and Sandra who was born in 1961. Betty was a pie maker until 1994 and then shortly retiring. She was preceded in death by her parents Emmett and Fern Christy; step-mother, Mildred Christy; her husband, Charles Jr. Turner of 2000; one brother, one sister and one son-in-law. Betty is survived by her three children, Charlene Turner of Welda, Kansas; Charles Turner of Iola, Kansas; and Sandra Noyes of Welda, Kansas; three grandchildren; Dawn Jones, Carla Turner, and Samson Turner; four great grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Tucker Jones, Cassie Turner and Allen Michael Turner; two sisters, Marsha Hayes of Paducah, Kentucky; Yvonne Dunlap of Iola, Kansas; and one brother, Paul Christy of El Dorado, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Interment will follow in the Welda Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Welda Community Building.
