Alva M. Harvey

July 4, 1923 — February 20, 2022

Alva M. Harvey, age 98, of Kincaid, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Parkview Heights in Garnett, Kansas.

She was born on July 4, 1923, in Collingswood, New Jersey, the oldest of six children to Irving Basil and Maybelle (Rudderow) Evans.

Alva was united in marriage to James F. Harvey on October 19, 1946, in Mt. Ephraim, New Jersey. This union was blessed with three children.

Her family was very important to her, she was a devout Christian stay-at-home mom who taught Sunday School, helped with 4-H club, Cub Scouts and the many school, music, and sports activities her children were involved in. She loved her seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren and kept up with their lives even though some were far away. She was always happy to have everyone together on holidays and family gatherings.

She loved to garden and always had plants growing indoors and out; and always had a bird feeder. She loved to go family camping visiting sites throughout the United States. She also did many types of needlework and sewing. She enjoyed her years working in the school & local public libraries. In her younger years she loved to ice skate and spend time at the beach at Cape May Point, NJ. She also used to play the piano at church years ago. In high school she played on the girls basketball team. She attended Bible college after high school.

She believed in following God's word and instilled that in her family as they grew into adulthood. She had a solid faith that kept her strong to weather the difficulties life brings and to be able to fully celebrate its joys. She was a member of the local Advancers Club and attended Colony Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James F. Harvey on September 21, 2007; her son, Keith Harvey; and five siblings.

Alva is survived by her daughters, Nancy McDonnell of Lighthouse Point, Florida; Jean Johns and husband Mike of Lone Elm, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Maureen Harvey of Chesapeake, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Ben Harvey and wife Samantha of Baltimore, Maryland; Becky Ruwe and husband Mike of Chesapeake, Virginia; John Harvey and wife Rachel of Louisville, Kentucky; Luke Harvey of Lane, Kansas; Jennifer Edwards of Keyser, West Virginia and Ann Edwards of Ft. Ashby, West Virginia; Eli Johns and fiancé Anna of Brooklyn, New York; and ten great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Park View Heights for the truly loving, compassionate care given to Alva during her time in their care.
