Alvin Chriestenson, age 75, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Alvin Nels Eugene Chriestenson was born on August 3, 1947, on a farm near Colony, Kansas. He was the middle child born to Nels Alexander Chriestenson and Julia Alta (Houghton) Chriestenson of Curtis, Oklahoma. He grew up mostly in the Roeland Park, Kansas area.
On December 21, 1968, he married Janet Lynn Perdue. They were blessed with a son, Mark Alexander Chriestenson, and a daughter, Alison Leslie (Chriestenson) Rue.
Alvin graduated high school at Shawnee Mission North High School, Kansas, in 1966. Alvin was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 for two years and spent one year in Vietnam. Alvin received the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged as a Spec. 5 tank mechanic. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years. He was well liked by his fellow employees. Alvin was baptized at Olivet Baptist Church. He enjoyed mowing grass and working on the family farm near Garnett, Kansas, and helping family members when he could. Alvin and Janet enjoyed wintering in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; and his daughter, Alison.
Alvin is survived by his son, Mark Chriestenson and wife Rebecca, and their four children, Marshall, Christopher, Alyssa and Gunner; Alison's two daughters, Abigail and Lillian; and three sisters, Lavona, Lois, and Linda; and a brother, Leon.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Kansas. Alvin's family will greet friends at 10:00 AM prior to the service Saturday morning.
