Alvin E. Martin

d. November 27, 2016

Alvin Eugene Martin, age 82, of Walnut, Kansas passed away on November 27, 2016 at his home. Alvin was born at home near Kincaid, Kansas on October 3, 1934. He was the youngest of five children born to William Joseph and Birdie Pearl (Collins) Martin. Alvin attended country schools as a boy. He lived most of his life in Allen and Neosho County. Alvin served in the US Army for two years. He eventually settled on his current farm near Walnut on Labor Day of 1966. On November 15, 1968 Alvin married the love of his life, Patricia L. Marque. His farm was his second love after his family. Alvin raised hogs and cattle. He started with dairy cows and later switched to beef cattle. On January 25, 1971 he went to work for Neosho County to "finish out the winter". In Alvin's words "winter lasted for over 30 years" while he worked as a grader operator for the county. He retired from his full time position in February, 1997, and continued to fill in for the county for several more years. Alvin always stayed busy and in his retirement he helped his sons on the farm. He loved his son's John Deere antique tractors. In his younger days Alvin loved coon hunting. He was always a family first type of person. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Likely and infant, Margaret; one brother, Rev. Charles Martin. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of the home; two sons, William Earl Martin and wife, Stephanie, of Walnut, Alin Eugene Martin and wife Cynthia, of Savonburg, Kansas; four grandchildren, Makayla, James, Mary, and Aidan; one sister, Wilma Morton of San Pablo, California; sister-in-law, Joyce Martin of Iola, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Moran, Kansas.
