Ann Vest

Ann Vest, 71, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Iola. Ann was born April 9, 1940, in LaHarpe, Kansas, the daughter of John and Lynn (Conner) Mapes. She grew up in the Moran area. On November 7, 1956, Ann married George L. Vest, Sr. and they lived on several Allen County farms before making their home in LaHarpe. He died August 8, 2004. Ann enjoyed children and operated a daycare in her home for years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, animals, and her flower garden. SURVIVORS: 3 Sons: Wendell Vest, Sr. of LaHarpe, KS, George L. Vest, Jr. & wife, Jan of Girard, KS, and Kenneth Vest of LaHarpe, KS 5 Daughters: Ruth Seeber & husband, Dean of Iola, KS, Sandra White & husband, Merl Hanson of Chanute, KS, Amy Ludlum & husband, Jerry of Erie, KS, Leona Christine Vest of Carthage, MO, and Jodie Alexander of Iola, KS 1 Brother: Clifford "Buddy" Mapes of Burlington, KS 1 Sister: Mary Knavel of LaHarpe, KS 19 Grandchildren and 33 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecelia Shears, 2 brothers, Jimmy & Johnny Mapes, and a sister, Rita Vest. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
