Arthur "Art" Gilmore, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital, Overland Park, Kansas. He was born on January 7, 1927, in Wayside, Kansas, the son of Lloyd and Emma Mae (Wilson) Gilmore. Art joined the U.S. Army and served from 1945 through 1946. Art married Laura Dodson on April 26, 1947, this union was blessed with three children, she preceded him in death in July of 1988. He married Marilyn Matthews on May 25, 1989 in Sacramento, California and gained a stepdaughter, Tanya. He was a member of the Garnett Assembly of God Church since 1992, serving as a board member, Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher, and a bus driver. For the past five years, he had attended the Beacon of Truth Church in Richmond, Kansas. After retirement in California, Art and Marilyn moved to Garnett in 1992. Art was very social, had many friends, and was faithful in hospital and nursing home visits. At one point, he owned 21 rental houses in town and felt that it was a ministry to help people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Emma Gilmore; one sister, Betty Lou Gilmore; and one brother, Bill Monroe Gilmore. Art is survived by his wife Marilyn Gilmore, of the home; one son, David Bryan Gilmore of Drytown, California; three daughters, Robin Ann Gilmore of Corning, California; Pamela Sue McSwane of Garnett, Kansas; and Tanya Lowe of Sacramento, California; thirteen grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchildren; one brother, Cecil Lloyd Gilmore of Eureka, Kansas; one sister, Roberta Jean Davis of Wichita, Kansas; and many extended friends and family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the Art Gilmore Memorial Fund.
