Arthur "Bill" Mott, Jr., 89, former Iola area resident and presently of Kansas City, Missouri, died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Riverside Nursing and Rehab Center in Riverside, Missouri. Bill was born December 12, 1919, in Gardner, Kansas the son of Arthur E. and Goldie (Sturm) Mott. On August 19, 1939, Bill married Eunice Corwin in Garnett and they lived in and around the Iola area for many years. He farmed and later worked at the Lehigh Portland Cement Plant until the plant closed in 1970. He then moved to Kansas City with his family to begin a new life working for the North Kansas City School System as a custodian. He retired and in 1982 they moved to Geneva, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1989 and in 1995 he returned to Kansas City. SURVIVORS: 3 Daughters: Billie Holden, Martha Sanders, Leona Tarwater & husband, Dean all of Kansas City, Missouri 1 Daughter-In-Law: Rena Traw & husband, Dennis of Emporia, KS 1 Sister-In-Law: Clara Lee Francis 9 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 11 Great Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by a son, John A. Mott, daughter, Laura Cole, brother, Frank Mott, 4 sisters, Ruth Roush, Susie Jirka, Lois King and Frances Stathem, and by 3 granddaughters, Connie, Josephine and Lahoma Sanders. VISITATION & GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Family and friends will gather at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, to leave for graveside services at 1:30 at Highland Cemetery in Iola.
