Arthur Lorraine Westerberg, 92, of rural Savonburg, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. He was born August 4, 1923, on the family farm west of Savonburg, the son of Arthur Albert and Ethel (Lagergren) Westerberg. He grew up on the farm and worked at his uncle's blacksmith shop in Savonburg before he graduated from high school. He then attended welding school in Wichita before serving in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from the service he made his home in different parts of the country working as a welder and later as an aircraft jig building contractor for Boeing in Wichita and McDonnell Douglas. He retired back to the farm at Savonburg. He was a member of Friends Home Lutheran Church at Savonburg. Survivors include his 4 children: Kathy Cupp & husband, Larry of Paragould, Arkansas, Art Westerberg, Jr. & his wife, Bib of Savonburg, KS, Larry Westerberg & wife, Debbie of Wichita, KS and Denice Branum & husband, Scott of Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016, at Friends Home Lutheran Church west of Savonburg with burial to follow in the Swedish Cemetery.
