Junele Small

June 23, 1930 — August 24, 2019

Avis Junele Small Armentrout, 89, went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2019, in Shawnee, KS. She was born June 23, 1930, to George W. and Clara M. (Schlatter) Small in Bellaire, Smith County, Kansas. She graduated from Iola, KS high school as a proud member of the class of 1948. Avis received a Bachelors and then a Masters from Emporia State Teachers College (now Emporia State University) and taught elementary school, mostly in Kansas, for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Gloria (Small) Land and husband Richard.

She is survived by one son Bill Randle and wife Katherine (Johns); one granddaughter Kasey (Randle) Biehler and husband Jesse; two great-grandchildren Breeley and Briggsley; one brother Ernie Small and wife Norma; a special niece, who was instrumental in her end of life care Tamera (Land) Keefer and husband Randy; three nieces Terri (Land) Wells and husband John, Renee (Small) Bartos and husband Stan, Stacy (Small) Riggins and husband Bill; three nephews Barry Land; Alan Land and wife Melissa (Boschert), Tony Small and wife Barb (Becker); and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was a Mom without equal, the best “Gramsbear” ever and a very special “Geat Geat Gamba”.

She had a lot of patience for her school kids, a soft spot in her heart for “underdogs” and was a tireless defender of children. These qualities made her a good, caring teacher, which was definitely her calling.
