Barbara A. Nelson

Barbara A. Nelson, age 88, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola, Kansas.

Barbara was born July 24, 1931 in Iola, Kansas to Robert “Bert” and Gladys (Anderson) Covault. On December 26, 1951 Barbara married William R. Nelson in Fort Scott, Kansas. Barbara taught school for 42 years in and around Humboldt, Kansas. Twelve years of her career was teaching for rural schools, followed by 31 years at Humboldt Elementary teaching fifth and sixth grade. She retired in May of 1993. Barbara and William moved to Iola from the farm East of Humboldt in November of 2002.

Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, was active in the Women’s Bowling League in Iola, and was a member of numerous teacher organizations.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Camac; brother-in-laws, John Camac, Harvey Piley, and Gordon Rosser II; sister-in-laws, Ruth Rosser and Mabel Piley.

Barbara is survived by husband, William Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.

Funeral services in honor of Barbara will be held Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow at Bronson Cemetery in Bronson, Kansas. Family will greet friends prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
