Barbara Tucker, age 56, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on November 23, 1954, in Downey, California, the daughter of Donald and Virginia (King) Herman. She graduated from Garnett High School and from Clark Business School. She worked for the Garnett Greenhouse after graduating, and then became a veterinary technician working in Alva, Oklahoma. Barbara married Tom Tucker on August 8, 1978 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. They made their home in Morrowville, Kansas for four years, and then moved to Alva, Oklahoma. After working as a veterinary technician, they moved to Attica, Kansas, returning to Garnett in 1993. She loved flowers, feeding and watching the birds, and Broadway shows. Her greatest joy was caring for her pets. She greatly enjoyed landscaping design, with Tom, her motto being, "I'll plan it, you plant it". Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Virginia Herman; brothers, Dennis Herman and Dee Herman. She is survived by her husband, Tom Tucker, of Garnett, Kansas; one sister, Susan Catron and husband Bob of Overland Park, Kansas; two nieces, Julianne Wright and husband Jim of Lenexa, Kansas; and their children, Alex and Grace Wright; Sheila Catron of Belton, Missouri; and Godmother and lifelong friend , Eileen Steele Johns. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, with inurnment to follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the KC Hospice House or to St. Rose School.
