Barbara Louise Wood, age 65, of Iola, Kansas passed away, Sunday, April 23, 2017 at her home in Iola. Barbara was born June 29, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of John and Naomi (Queen) Brown. She grew up in Columbus, attending school there. Barbara attended college in Sherman, Texas, where she earned a B.A. in nursing. Throughout her life Barbara lived in Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Washington and Oklahoma, before moving to Reynolds, Ohio. In 2002 she moved to Iola to be near her sisters. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Moran Manor for eleven years. Barbara enjoyed tending to her rose garden and hearing her wind chimes. She loved square dancing and listening to music. Her caretaker's spirit was always present whether she was cooking for family or helping anyone, often putting their needs above hers. She was a devoted wife to the love of her life, Donald, for the last seventeen years. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. She is survived by her husband, Donald Porter of Iola; her four children, Michelle Huizche of Iola, Tina Evans and wife, Shannon Turner of Iola, Albert Garza and wife, Emilia of Baytown, Texas, Crystal Goldstein of Queens, New York; two step-children, Kenny Porter and wife, Kaucha of Columbus, Ohio and Amanda Winkle and husband, Eric of Toledo, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters; one brother. A celebration of her life will be hosted by her family at 3:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Iola Masonic Lodge, 213 West Madison Avenue, Iola.
