Belva “Joyce” Stokes, age 76, of Humboldt, Kansas passed away at her home on Sunday, March 29, 2020.
Joyce was born on July 19, 1943 to Ernest and Chloe (Toadman) Appling in Iola, Kansas. She attended high school at LaHarpe High School, LaHarpe, Kansas. She married Charles Stokes on September 27, 1962 in Iola. Their union was blessed with four children. Joyce spent the majority of her life as the homemaker for her family.
Joyce was known for her abundant love for her family. She was happiest when everyone could gather, and she could cook for them. No one ever left hungry if they had been around Joyce. During the holidays, you could always find the house decorated. She took great pride in putting out lights and blow-up characters in their yard for Christmas. She had a servant heart and was always taking care of others.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Lisa Stokes.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Charles; daughter, Tammy Parker; two sons, Dean and Donnie Stokes; two brothers, Gary and Jim Appling; three sisters, Jayne Snyder, Carol Voustinas, and Mary Lou Stotler; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
Joyce will lie in state at the funeral home in Iola until her service. Friends may pay their respects from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Thursday. Due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 Virus, the services will be private. Memorials in honor of Joyce are suggested to Shriner's Children's Hospital and may be mailed to Feuerborn Family Funeral Service at 1883 U.S. HWY 54, Iola, KS 66749.
