Bernice E. Heiman, 82, of Piqua, Kansas, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kansas. Bernice was born October 20, 1927, on a farm two miles west of Piqua, Kansas, the daughter of John A. and Edith M. (Trout) Scheibmeir. She attended elementary school at Piqua and went to two years of high school at Yates Center and then two years in Iola graduating from Iola High School in 1945. On December 26, 1946, Bernice married Al Heiman and they always made their home at Piqua. She worked for ten years for H.L. Miller & Son in Iola and then fifteen years for the Piqua Coop before she retired. Her husband preceded her in death on July 3, 1997. She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and Altar Society at Piqua. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Rick Heiman of Piqua, KS 6 Daughters: Connie Buller of Piqua, Alfy Rice of Rural Iola, Penny McDonald of Wichita, Tammy Heiman of Iola, Edye Martin of Piqua and Trina Pennuto of Piqua 1 Brother: Don Scheibmeir of Piqua, KS 2 Sisters: Emma Mae Frazier of DeQuincy, LA and Marieta West of Piqua, KS 13 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a son, Donald R. Heiman, 4 brothers, Gerald, Ed, Lloyd and Eugene Scheibmeir and a sister, Pauline Diebolt. PARISH ROSARY: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua, KS prior to the mass. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua, KS following the rosary. The Rev. Thomas Scaletty will be celebrant.
