Bertlum Leroy Stokes, Jr. "Junior", age 83, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at his home in Iola, Kansas.
Junior was born July 19, 1938, in Latham, Kansas, to Bertlum Leroy and Lois Mae (Ryan) Stokes, Sr. He attended school in Moran, Kansas. After school, he enrolled in the United States Army and served for two years. Junior worked for Nelson Quarries for 18.5 years before working 27.5 years for Gates Rubber Company. After retiring from Gates, Junior decided he loved his work so much for Nelson Quarries that he would return and work another two years before fully retiring.
Junior was a true handyman with a wealth of knowledge of just about anything. If something had a motor, Junior was the man for the job. In his spare time, he loved to fish and country cruise. He could do both for hours! He had a giving heart and was willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed his help. He was a strong pillar for his family and had a soft spot for all of his grandchildren.
Junior is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William L. Stokes, Allen R. Stokes, Harlen B. Stokes, Darrell D. Stokes, Robert L. Stokes, Donald D. Stokes, James W. Stokes, John A. Stokes, and Samuel D. Stokes; and sisters, Linda, Virginia, and Mary.
Junior is survived by children, Sherry Sandlin and husband, Louis, Dawn Beasley and husband, Jeremy, John Stokes and wife, Melissa; brother, Charlie Stokes; grandchildren, Ashley Luttrell and husband, Chance, Shane Sandlin, Sydney Stokes, Britney Hueston and husband, Zak, Jessica Beasley Ramirez, Kendall Beasley Anderson, and Brianna Stokes; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Zoey, Liam, Jaxon, Violet, Roger, Ayvia, Dakota, Brylynn, and Brookston; nephews, Michael Stokes and Quinton Stokes; nieces, Sandy and Megan; great-niece, Macie; and numerous other family members and friends.
A funeral service to honor the life of Junior will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow at Gas City Cemetery in Gas, Kansas. Family will greet friends the day prior to the service on Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in The Venue at the funeral home.
