Betty Jane Adams, age 81, of Welda, Kansas, died on Friday, October 31, 2008, at the Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on September 18, 1927, at Walker, Missouri, the daughter of Dan and Mildred (Parks) Hiestand. Betty lived in Nevada, Missouri before the family moved to Welda. She graduated from Welda High School. Following school she moved to Topeka, where she met her husband, Melvin. Betty was united in marriage to Melvin E. Adams on May 4, 1948, at Topeka, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children. The couple moved to the Welda / Colony area in 1951. Betty worked as a waitress and cook at the Welda Diner, Anderson County Sale Barn and was the manger of The Rocky Roost for several years. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, making lots of homemade noodles. She also enjoyed camping, card parties, Royals baseball, trips to the Cheyenne rodeo and bus tours, but her greatest joy was her family. She was preceded by in death by her parents; husband Melvin E. Adams on July 20, 2007; son Melvin Earl Adams, Jr.; and one sister, Ruby Ensley. Betty is survived by her son, Doug Adams and wife Dawn of Scipio, Kansas; three daughters, Vicky Adams of Welda, Kansas; Nancy Tush and husband Rick of Eureka, Kansas; Rebecca Doebele and husband Rick of Hanover, Kansas; daughter-in-law Mary Adams of Garnett, Kansas; brothers Bob Hiestand of Garnett, Kansas; Sam Hiestand and wife Frieda of Garnett, Kansas; George Hiestand and wife Jan of Golden, Colorado; sister Judy Blubaugh and husband Roger of Olathe, Kansas; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday November 3, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Welda Cemetery in Welda, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Welda Community Building.
