Betty June Cope, age 83, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Golden Heights in Garnett, Kansas. She was born July 1, 1928, in Hume, Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Alta (Shoemaker) Powls. She attended Hume High School in Missouri. Betty married Bud Lytle and this union was blessed with two sons, Robert "Butch" Lytle and Joseph "Joe" Lytle. Later in life Betty married Victor Cope making their home in Inola, Oklahoma for 41 years until his death in 2006. Betty continued to reside in Inola until her health declined, and then moved to Garnett to be near family. She became a Golden Heights resident in February 2010. She loved her time at Golden Heights, especially enjoying the activities and social times. She will be remembered fondly as a favorite resident by staff as well as other residents. Betty was an active member in the Inola, Oklahoma community. Some organizations she was involved in were The Round Up Club and ESA. Betty was actively involved in establishing the Senior Center of Inola, and took on many roles to help it flourish including volunteering, cooking, and fundraising. She proudly helped many of the elderly in the community. Betty even received the prestigious award - The Diana Award, which is citizen of the year. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor Cope in 2006; sister, Bonnie Beissel; granddaughter, Debbie Lytle; and nephew, Charles Beissel. She is survived by two sons, Robert "Butch" Lytle and Vicky of Colony, Kansas; Joseph Lytle and Betty of Garnett, Kansas; four grandchildren, Robert Lytle, Tonya Orth, Ty Lytle, and Tracy Keller; several great grandchildren; Nieces, Retha Burnett and Len of Garnett, Kansas; JoAnne Highberger and Allan of Garnett, Kansas; Jackie Bowen and Mary Jo Stifter of Richmond, Kansas; and one nephew, Donnie Beissel and Tammi of Inola, Oklahoma; many great nieces, nephews, and friends that loved her dearly. Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Golden Heights, Garnett.
