Betty A Cox

July 24, 1933 — September 23, 2019

Bertha (Betty) A. Boehm Cox of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Monday September 23, 2019, at Rock Creek of Ottawa at the age of 86.

She was born July 24, 1933, in Lenexa, Kansas, the daughter of Oliver and Rosa (Bross) Boehm. Betty married Harvey Eugene Cox in1950 and this union was blessed with four sons.

Betty was a beautician, opening her own salon in Roeland Park, Kansas. In 1970, Betty and Harvey moved to Pomme de Terre Lake for several years, where she learned how to water ski even though she did not know how to swim. After spending 13 years in Columbia, Missouri, they moved to North Fort Myers, Florida. Betty spent many days at the beach where she enjoyed collecting shells and watching hummingbirds, which led to her extensive collection of anything related to hummingbirds. She also enjoyed making flower arrangements and casting ceramics.

In 2002, Betty and Harvey moved back to the Kansas City area, settling in Ottawa, Kansas. Betty was outgoing and vivacious, and loved to play cards with family members. She had a sparkle in her eye and we will miss her smile and wicked laughter.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Rosa Boehm; husband, Harvey Cox; one son, James Cox; three brothers, Clarence, Donald and Ralph; two sisters, Mabel and Ethel.

She is survived by three sons, Dale Cox of Pleasant Valley, Missouri; Wayne Cox of St. James City, Florida; Les Cox and wife Deborah of North Fort Myers, Florida; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Lawrence;

Betty was especially close to her brother-in-law, Donald Cox, Harvey’s brother. She treated Donald and his wife, Ann, like a brother and sister. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members.
