Betty Jean Wells, age 88, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Medicalodges: Senior Living and Care in Iola, Kansas.
Betty was born April 25, 1934, in Tacoma, Washington, to Olaf and Bonita (Reid) Overli. She grew up around and attended school in Eatonville, Washington. Betty married John Wells on February 3, 1964, in Olympia, Washington. They lived various places during their marriage but made their home in LaHarpe, Kansas. After John's passing in July of 1979, Betty moved to Iola, where she resided until her passing. Betty worked as a Certified Medications Aide and worked around the Iola area helping the residents in local nursing homes.
In Betty's spare time, she loved to crotchet and paint. She also loved taking the time to research her genealogy and trace back her family roots. Betty was a lifetime member of the Disabled Americans Auxiliary and a former V.F.W. Auxillary Member. She found her church home at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Iola, Kansas, where she gained many great friends that she considered family.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, John Wells; son, Kenneth Jewett; daughters, Nell Carver and Ruby Gentry; parents, Olaf and Bonita Overli; brother, Don Overli; and sister, Marie Lopez.
Betty is survived by daughter, Gloria Gentry; sons, Wallace Jewett and Jim Jewett; brother, Ron Overli; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
A funeral service to honor the life of Betty will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Iola, Kansas. Friends can pay their respects to Betty starting at 1:30 P.M. just prior to the service.
