Betty M. Wolken, age 83, of Pittsburg, Kansas, formerly of Garnett, Kansas, died Saturday morning, April 19, 2008 at Cornerstone Village, Inc. at Pittsburg, Kansas. She was born July 16, 1924, at Portsmouth, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholous and Mathilda (Micholski) Jacobs. Betty grew up in Harlan, Iowa and met Robert during corn harvest. Betty married Robert Wolken on October 17, 1942 at Camp Campbell, Kentucky. This union was blessed with five children. She was a member of St. Boniface Church; the Altar Society; and Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church at Pittsburg, Kansas. She loved to cook, to plant a garden, crocheting and quilting, and loved to make cinnamon rolls for her family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholous and Mathilda Jacobs; her husband, Robert Wolken on August 10, 1999; two sons, Bobby Jo Wolken and Terry Wolken. She is survived by one son, Nick Wolken and wife Lynette of Ottawa, Kansas; two daughters, Barbara Diedel and husband Raymond of Lawrence, Kansas; Judy Pearce and husband Stan of Cherokee, Kansas; and daughter-in-law Shirley Wolken of Lawrence, Kansas; five brothers, Victor Jacobs; Gordon Jacobs; Ken Jacobs; Nick Jacobs; and Jim Jacobs; two sisters Rosanne Larson and Darlene Johnson; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with burial at the St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio, Kansas. A wake service will be held at the church from 7 to 8 PM on Monday evening. Family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Boniface Church.
