Billy Dean "Bill" Haas, 85, formerly of rural LaHarpe, Kansas, died peacefully at home with family in Yates Center, Kansas, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. He was born June 28, 1927, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Charles Woodward and Flora Catherine (Launer) Haas. As a young man he attended Manhattan Christian Bible College in Manhattan, Kansas. On August 24, 1948, Bill married Irma Faye Watkins and they made their home in the Lawrence area. He worked for Gambles for approximately 10 years and won several top sales awards. For about five years, he and his wife simultaneously owned and operated H & H New & Used Furniture in Lawrence, and Factory Surplus Furniture & Bedding in Ottawa, Kansas. He operated a backhoe service in New Mexico for seven years before moving to a farm south of LaHarpe. Mrs. Haas preceded him in death December 8, 2006. SURVIVORS: 4 Children: Charles Haas of Yates Center, KS; Connie Caban of Sarasota, FL; Colette Moore of Wolfforth, TX; and Catherine Hunsperger of Yates Center, KS A Grandson They Raised: Jeremiah Cartright of Eureka, KS 2 Brothers: Lloyd Haas of Augusta, KS and Floyd Haas of Patton, MO 1 Sister: Thelma Wymore of Johnson City, TN 17 Grandchildren & 15 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by 5 brothers. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2013, at RiverTree Christian Church in Iola. VISITATION: An hour prior to the service at the church.
