Blanch Henderson, age 93, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, peacefully at Parkview Heights, Garnett, Kansas.
Blanch Marie Nilges Henderson was born on May 8, 1930, in a little house by the railroad tracks in Scipio, Kansas, now known as Scipio Supper Club. She was the third child of Albert Nilges and Barbara Kipper Nilges. Her family moved to Richmond when Blanch started school so she would be safe on her journey each day. Blanch graduated high school with the class of 1948.
Blanch married Ira Lee Henderson on September 18, 1951. In October of 1951, Lee joined the United States Air Force. This lifelong adventure took them to many places, foreign and state side. Blanch was always proud of the fact that she and Lee never spent Christmas apart. She was always able to travel with him no matter where he was stationed. In June 1957, they welcomed a daughter into their lives. When she and Lee retired in 1971, they settled down in Garnett, Kansas, where she spent the rest of her life.
Blanch was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years; parents; three brothers, Alfred, Elmer and Clyde Nilges; one sister Maxine Hildebrandt.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Marie Spencer (Timothy) of Derby, Kansas; three grandchildren, Timothy Spencer Jr. (Kim) of Lawrence, Kansas, Matthew Spencer (Jessie) of Satellite Beach, Florida, Cecilia Nelson (David) of Theodore, Alabama; four great-grandsons, Ethan Spencer, Bradley and Landry Spencer and Cole Nelson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond, Kansas. Family will greet friends on Monday evening, April 22, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with Rosary taking place at 6:30 P.M. Burial will take place at Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and can be left in the care of the funeral home.
