Blanche Lucille (Henderson) Kline departed this life on November 29, 2019 at Parkview Heights in Garnett, Kansas at the age of 99. She was born on March 5, 1920 on the family farm near Bush City, Kansas to Alva and Minnie (Sampson) Henderson. She attended 1st through 8th grade at Minkler-Starr School and later attended High School in Kincaid, Kansas, graduating as Valedictorian with the class of 1939. She attended State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas and received her Teaching Certificate. She taught school at Minkler-Starr and Bush City from 1940 to 1944.
Blanche was united in marriage to Raymond C. Kline on July 24, 1943 in Garnett, Kansas. Three children were born to this marriage, Gary, Gail, and Sharon. They made their home in Bush City until moving to Osawatomie for Raymond’s work and later returning to the Bush City area. They moved to Garnett in 1973. Raymond preceded Blanche in death in 1994. In 2015, due to health issues, Blanche moved into Parkview Heights.
After teaching school, Blanche worked in a grocery in Osawatomie and later, in Garnett at Western Auto, Coker’s, Ben Franklin and Alco stores. She was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed her family, her grandchildren and various pets over the years. There were many family vacations, usually to the mountains, with fishing trips to Eleven Mile Canyon in Colorado.
In later years, she spent a part of 3 years on extended trips to Sharon’s in Colorado, with trips to Rocky Mountain National Park and to Buena Vista, participating in whatever the family was doing.
After moving to Parkview Heights, she very much enjoyed the company of the staff and residents there, the various visiting pets and the many activities in which she was able to participate. She enjoyed family visits and day trips to Gail and Angela’s for dinner and to play games or work puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond and by their son Gary. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Don C. “Abe”, Fred, Glenn, and William E. “Bud” Henderson, and an infant sister, her parents Alva and Minnie (Sampson) Henderson, and a niece, Donna June Hollinger.
She is survived by her son, Gail Kline and wife Angela of Garnett, Kansas, a daughter, Sharon Bailey of Windsor, Colorado, grandchildren Greg (Pam) Kline of Paola, Tony (Stephanie) Kline of Greeley and Gayla (Brad) Harvey of Collyer, Kansas, great grandchildren Joe and Breanna Kline, great niece and nephew Ann Shull and Steve Hollinger.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkview Heights, on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 2:30 until 4:00PM. Blanche chose cremation and interment at Kincaid Cemetery, which will be at a later date.
