Brenda Ludlum

Brenda Ludlum, age 59, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020 at her home in Alva, Florida.

Brenda was born October 9, 1960 to Paul Hemmert and Patricia (Lewis) Franklin in Spokane, Washington. Brenda attended high school in Lakeland, Idaho. She graduated in 1979 from Lakeland Senior High School. After high school, she attended Fort Scott Community College School of Nursing where she received her associates degree and later began working as a Registered Nurse. She later went on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University in December of 2004. She spent her entire career in the medical field working various positions as a nurse.

On May 30, 1981 Brenda married Don “Pete” Ludlum in Iola, Kansas. They made a home for their family in Pittsburg, Kansas. They later moved to Oklahoma where Pete went to work for Phillips’ Petroleum and Brenda continued her nursing career. After 12 years in Oklahoma, they spent two years in Spokane before returning to Elsmore. They resided in Elsmore for five years and then moved to Louisburg, Kansas. After numerous years of being dedicated to their careers, Pete and Brenda made the decision to retire to Florida where they began their journey traveling around the world together while enjoying retirement. They went on a total of 39 cruises together over the years.

Brenda enjoyed painting, reading, and gardening. She loved flowers. She was a christian and spent years teaching youth groups and was a member of the National Audubon Society. Brenda really enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains. Being a grandma was one of her biggest joys in life.

Brenda is preceded in death by sister, Leslie Norman.

Brenda is survived by husband, Pete Ludlum; parents, Paul (Connie) Hemmert and Patricia (Bob) Franklin; brother, Brian Hemmert; sister, Bonnie (Tom) Lang; children, John Bruse and Josh (Amanda) Ludlum; grandchildren, Summer and Audrey Ludlum; and numerous other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola, Kansas with burial to follow at Elsmore Cemetery in Elsmore, Kansas. Family will great friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.
