Carol Beth Adams Bishop Brower, 81, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. She was born on the family farm a mile south of Carlyle October 8, 1929, the daughter of Elmer E. and Lydia (Dreyer) Adams. She attended the North Maple Grove grade school for seven years and the Iola High School graduating in May 1946. She attended the Chanute Junior College for one year then returned to the Iola Junior College for the remaining year after it opened again following the war. While attending high school and college, Carol was employed at S & H Kress and the Iola Wholesale Grocery. On September 25, 1949, Carol married Harry C. Bishop, Jr., at the First Methodist Church in Iola. They lived in Pittsburg, Kansas for two years while he attended the State Teachers College and then he was employed by the school districts at Coffeyville, Fredonia and Independence, Kansas until 1979 when he accepted the position of Assistant Supt. of Schools at Iola. Carol then was employed with the Gates Rubber Co. as secretary for several general managers for the following 16 years until she suffered a light stroke and had to retire. Harry passed away Feb. 10, 1981. She later married Dene Brower of Iola April 23, 1989, at the Carlyle Presbyterian Church. Carol loved to play bridge and also to travel. She belonged to the Carlyle Presbyterian Church, Iola American Legion Auxiliary Post 15 and also was a member of Laureate Beta Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi which she joined in 1982. She is survived by her husband Dene as well as son Barry Bishop and his wife, Cyndee, granddaughters Brianna and Cassie and great granddaughter Kailey and great grandsons Kaden and Easton of Kearney, MO, daughter Susan Hall and her husband Tim of Shawnee, KS, as well as several cousins. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL: Carlyle Presbyterian Church Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
