Carol Jane Mersman, age 85, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021, at Parkview Heights, Garnett, Kansas.
She was born November 2, 1935, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of John and Greta (Britton) Bell. She attended school in Richmond, Kansas. She married Marvin John Mersman on January 21, 1952 in Richmond, Kansas. This union was blessed with eleven children.
Carol Jane was a homemaker for many years raising her eleven children. She was proud of the fact that the oldest and the youngest were born on the same day, April 20, fifteen years apart. Later, she worked at the Anderson County Hospital in the nursery, Oakhaven Nursing Home in Richmond, Kansas, and retired as a cook for USD 365 schools. After retirement, her enjoyment of taking care of babies continued caring for several infants in the community. She enjoyed bowling, making homemade noodles, attending her children’s sport activities, and going to the casino. Carol Jane had a green thumb with flowers, plants, and gardening. Family was her greatest joy.
She was a member of the St. Boniface Church and the Holy Angels Church; St. Boniface and Holy Angels Altar Society.
Carol Jane was preceded in death by her parents, John Bell and Greta Heatherly; husband, Marvin Mersman on April 17, 1994; two sons, Gerald Mersman and William “Bill” Mersman; one daughter, Venita Kelly; one grandson, Sgt. Jeffery Scott Mersman; one great-great granddaughter, Serenity.
She is survived by her children, Marva Katzer and husband Jim of Osawatomie, Kansas; Robert Mersman of Gardner, Kansas; Greta Baker and husband Scott of Iola, Kansas; Tony Mersman and wife Vicki of Greeley, Kansas; Rick Mersman of Greeley, Kansas; Jim Mersman and wife Cindy of Garnett, Kansas; Leland Mersman and wife Kathi of Mustang, Oklahoma; Mark Mersman and wife Christi of Garnett, Kansas; 24 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; many stepchildren and step grandchildren; one sister, JoAnn Lickteig of Olathe, Kansas.
Services will Carol Jane will now be private services for the family only, due to precautions related to Covid-19. Friends and extended family will be able to view the services via our livestreaming link.
Friends may pay their respects to Carol Jane at the funeral home on Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
