Carol Jean Rhodus

Carol Jean Rhodus, age 76, of Iola, Kansas, passed away March 10, 2020, at Windsor Place in Iola. Carol was born January 27, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, to Martin Lueker, Jr. and Emma Weiss Lueker.

Carol attended Lutheran Grade School in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Iola High School in 1962. She graduated Pittsburg State College in Pittsburg, Kansas, with a degree in education.

Carol and Charles A. Rhodus were married March 12, 1972, in Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death July 19, 1987.

Carol taught elementary grades in Thornton, Colorado, from 1967 to 1979. She moved to Iola, Kansas, where she taught third-grade at McKinley Elementary School from 1979 to 1982.

Carol suffered a brain aneurysm and became disabled in May, 1982. In August, 1987, she moved to Arrowwood Residential Home in Humboldt. Carol moved to Windsor Place in Iola in October, 2017.

Carol was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Iola, Kansas.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Vernon Lueker; and sister, Clayoma Gilliland.

Carol is survived by her sister, Ruth Mueller, Iola, Kansas; step-children, Dawn and husband, Pat, Brighton, Colorado, Renee and husband, Mark, Niska, Alexandria, Minnesota, Scott Rhodus, Thornton, Colorado; seven step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Lueker, Iola, Kansas; and brother-in-law, Ken and wife, Jane, Rhodus, Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Carol will be held Friday, March 13, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 117 East Miller Road, Iola, Kansas. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Grace Lutheran Church, Iola, Kansas. A private family burial will follow at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.
