Catherine Sue “Cathy” Robson, age 60, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at her home.
Cathy was the first of three children born to Dwight and Mildred (Kuhn) Burk. She was born on May 18, 1959 in LaCrosse, Kansas. Her family moved to Yates Center as a young girl. She made Yates Center her home for the rest of her life. While in high school, Cathy worked as a waitress at the Tip Top Cafe. She graduated from Yates Center High School with the class of 1977. Following high school, Cathy attended cosmetology school in Independence, Kansas. On August 18, 1980 she married Keith Robson in Yates Center. Their union was blessed with three children. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2015. Cathy worked as a hairdresser in Yates Center before her children were born. While her children were young, Cathy was able to be at home with them. She reentered the workforce after her children were in school, cooking at Woody’s Restaurant and at Frannie’s and then as the assistant manager of the Casey’s General Store. Cathy later worked as a cook at Twin Oaks and after becoming a certified dietician she became the dietary manager there. She eventually became the dietary manager at Heritage Healthcare in Chanute, Kansas. She worked there until her health would no longer allow. Cathy’s health took a toll on her ability to work, but she was proud to be a breast cancer survivor, after being diagnosed in 2006.
Cooking was a central part of her life, she will be missed for her cooking and baking. Cathy liked to garden and then can her produce and share with family and friends. In her free time she enjoyed watching cooking and game shows, reading and taking bus trips to area casinos. Her family was her greatest joy, she was especially happy to have a grandson, Austin, to spend time with.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Keith.
She is survived by her three children, Megan Sterling and husband, Matt of Lenexa, Kansas, Ben Robson and Savannah Robson of Yates Center; one grandson, Austin Sterling of Lenexa; one brother, Jr. Burk and wife, Debbie of Yates Center and one sister, Denise Burk of Yates Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 3, 2019, in the Yates Center Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Friends For Life and may be left with the funeral home. Condolences may be left at
