Cathy Nelson Cox, 82, long-time resident of the Walnut, Kansas area, now residing at the Moran Manor, died Monday, May 21, 2012. She was born March 27, 1930, in Catawba, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Christine (Raab) Herber. She grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from high school at Catawba. She moved to Rockford, Illinois where she married Gene Patrick "Pat" Nelson on October 11, 1952. They moved to Kansas in 1958 and settled on a farm north of Walnut. He preceded her in death in 1972. Cathy married Dale Cox in 1987 and they stayed in the Walnut area. He died in 2002. She was a member of the Hepler Lutheran Church. Cathy enjoyed birds, reading, watching television, cooking, sewing for her children and babysitting her grandchildren and other children in her area. SURVIVORS: Her 3 Children: Albert Nelson & Cathy Lunday of Stark, KS, Lori Holman & husband, Mike of Moran, KS, and Peggy Stewart & Kirby Stokes of LaHarpe, KS 1 Brother: Henry Herber of Phillips, WI 3 Sisters: Lillian Robinson and Rosemary Schoenfelder & husband, Bill all of Rockford, IL, and Shirley Marlow of Sussex, WI 1 Sister-in-law: Eileen Yoho of Stark, KS 8 Grandchildren & 3 Great Grandchildren Many nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two grandsons, Jesse Lee Holman and Raymond Cassingham, great-grandson, Morgan Raymond Stewart, son-in-law, David Stewart, and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Yoho, Raymond Marlow and Tex Robinson. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. BURIAL: Mt. Moriah Cemetery south of Savonburg, Kansas MEMORIAL CHOICES: Moran Manor Activity Fund or Life Retracking Recovery House Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
