Charlene Rose Tinsley, age 88, of Colony, Kansas passed away on August 31, 2018 at her home. Charlene was born on September 15, 1929 at Colony, Kansas. She was first of two children born to Charles O. “Chuck” and Grace A. Rose. Charlene grew up in Colony. Her family later moved to Boulder, Colorado where she graduated from high school before attending Boulder University for a while. Charlene married Charles R. Tinsley on August 20, 1948 at Boulder. Their union was blessed with four children. They lived all of their married years in the Colony, Welda and Garnett area before moving into the town of Colony in 1969. Charlene worked as a seamstress at Warner Manufacturing in Garnett and then retired from the Miller Dress Factory in Iola. In her retirement years, she worked at the Colony City Hall and Library. She also catered and made wedding cakes for countless people in the area. Charlene was a member of the Colony Christian Church and the Jolly Dozen Club. She was an avid quilter and seamstress. She will be missed for her cinnamon rolls. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles on November 24, 2003; daughter, Nancy Tinsley in September of 2000; a grandson, Staci Tinsley in September 2001; and one brother, Orville Rose. She is survived by her children, Jerry Tinsley and wife, Mona of Springfield, Missouri, Chris Tinsley and wife, June of Altoona, Kansas, and Gayle Coulson and husband, Terry of Rantoul, Kansas; and a friend who became family, Joella Skyles and husband, Danial and their family; six grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Colony High Point Cowboy Church. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery.
