Charles Melvin Burton, 72, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, March 10, 2016. Charles was born December 12, 1943, at Buffalo, Kansas, the son of Robert McHenry and Rose Evelyn (Holeman) Burton. He grew up at Humboldt, moving to Iola as a young man. He lived in Emporia, Kansas where he worked for I.B.P. before returning to Iola in 1998. He had been a member of the Eagles Lodge in Emporia. He is survived by his 3 children: Charles Melvin Burton, Jr. of Pittsburg, KS, John Robert Burton of Emporia, KS and Betty Ann Sigsby of Denver, CO; 4 siblings, Jack Burton of Olathe, KS, Bill Burton of Ft. Scott, KS, Ed Burton of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Betty Smart of Holloway, OK; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rose, and brothers Bob, Jim and Fred Burton. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thurs., March 17, 2016, at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. To leave a condolence online, go to
