Charles "Skinny" E. Worthington

Charles E. "Skinny" Worthington, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Golden Heights in Garnett. He was born on July 1, 1920, at Xenia, Kansas, the son of Samuel and Maude (Townsley) Worthington. Skinny's family lived near Xenia and Bush City where he attended a country school near Bush City as a child. Following school Skinny lived in Nebraska for a few years, before moving to Moran, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Marjorie L. Gillham on March 8, 1941, at Nevada, Missouri. This union was blessed with four children. They made their home north of Bronson until moving to Garnett in 1944. Skinny farmed and worked at the rock quarry in Garnett. He later ran a bulldozer for Ben Brummel for many years. Skinny then worked as the custodian at the Welda School until the early 1970's when he began working as a feed salesman for Moor-Mans feed. In his retirement Skinny and Marge attended countless auctions and maintained their booths at the Welda Flea Market. Skinny had a lifelong love of rodeos. He began rodeoing at a young age and continued to compete in calf roping and steer wrestling until 1969. After he stopped competing Skinny spent many years as rodeo judge and lifelong fan. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Garnett. Skinny also enjoyed hunting and raising bird dogs. Skinny was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie Worthington on August 13, 2006; two brothers; four sisters, and one infant sister. He is survived by his son, Max Lee Worthington and his wife Deb of Garnett, Kansas; three daughters, Donna Kesner and her husband Milo of Garnett, Kansas; Janice Worthington of Greensburg, Kansas; Charlotte Bush and her husband Gary of Winter Haven, Florida; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
