Charles Morrison

d. April 1, 2012

Charles "Pete" Morrison, age 81, of Centerville, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his home. He was born May 8, 1930, the son of William Allen and Anna Agnes (Dinsmore) Morrison. He was born on a farm near Goodrich, one of eleven children. Charles attended grade school at Finley. Charles married Mary A. Reed on May 22, 1952 in Garnett, Kansas. He joined the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in New Jersey. He worked at the ammunition plant in Desoto, Kansas for two years. He returned home to Goodrich where he worked for Lee and Essie Smith for 13 years on the farm. Charles then moved to Centerville where he worked in the salvage yard. When the salvage yard closed, he went to Kansas City and worked as a diesel mechanic where he finished his working career of 28 years for Carrol Ball. He truly loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman. The late Carl Russell was a fishing buddy for many years. One of his passions was gardening. He faithfully planted his garden 60 years, and loved to watch things grow. Charles enjoyed taking his two grandsons Chuck and James with him whether it was hunting or fishing, or just riding on the lawnmower. They had an evening routine of playing Yahtzee and eating ice cream. He truly loved spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Morrison; grandson, Chad Conner; four sisters, Lucille Morrison, Elsie Blackmore, Viola King, and Dolly Dickey; two brothers, Rosco Morrison and John Morrison. Charles is survived by his wife Mary, of the home; his daughter, Brenda Conner and husband Glenn of Centerville, Kansas; two grandsons, Chuck Conner and wife Ann of Glenpool, Oklahoma; James Conner and wife Amy of Redfield, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Lane, Natalie and Kristen Conner of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and Dakota Conner of Redfield, Kansas; two sisters, Frances Wiley of Oregon; Joyce Kuder and husband Jim of Independence, Missouri; two brothers, Earl Morrison and wife Beverly of Texas; and Jackie Morrison and wife Delores of Livonia, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Centerville Community Church, Centerville, Kansas; burial to follow in the Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett.
