Charles W. Turley, 88, of Iola, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. Charles was born February 20, 1921, in LaHarpe, Kansas, the son of William Lawson and Linnie Ellen (Tate) Turley. After graduating from LaHarpe High School he served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII where he received two purple hearts. Charles married Josephine Vogel and they made their home in Iola. From 1961 until 1984 he worked as a truck driver for Ruan Transport Corp. He was a lifetime member of the LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6324, Disabled American Veterans, and the Marine Corps League. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: C.J. Turley of Carl Junction, Missouri 2 Daughters: Christina VanWinkle of Topeka, Kansas and Jill Turley of Iola, Kansas 1 Brother: Jim Turley of Kansas City, Missouri 1 Sister: Marjorie Carter of St. James, Missouri 3 Grandchildren & 8 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by an infant son, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. VISITATION & SERVICE: Family and friends will gather beginning at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel to leave for graveside services to be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the graveside in Highland Cemetery with Dick Davis officiating.
