Charles Alfred Warbritton, age 95, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Monday, January 12, 2009, at the Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. Charles was born on March 22, 1913, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Elmer Ellworth and Lula Rebecca (Adams) Warbritton. He graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1931 and was employed at the Kansas Ordinance Plant in Parsons, Kansas from 1940 to 1943, with the Ford Motor Company from 1943 to 1946, with the Vendo Company from 1946 to 1949, then on to Garnett in service station work, in hardware for Ray Miles and Earl Miller, then C & B Paint store from 1977 to 1991. Charles married Evelyn Thornbrugh on May 30, 1935 at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with one son. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lulu Warbritton, his wife of 62 years on Aug. 19, 1997, two sisters, one brother, and one nephew. Charles is survived by one son, Jimmy Alfred Warbritton of North Aurora, Illinois, three grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Speckman, Jason Aaron Warbritton, Jacqueline Anne Warbritton; four great grandchildren, Jackson Aaron Warbritton, Rhiannon Violet Speckman, Gretchen Evelyn Speckman, and Heidi Adalina Speckman. He is also survived by his favorite brother-in-law, Paul and Freda Thornbrugh of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Garnett, Kansas or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
