Charles Augustine Wilper, age 88, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. He was born on March 14, 1923, at Harris, Kansas, the son of Joseph H. and Mary I. (Scully) Wilper. Charles spent his lifetime on the family farm west of Harris. As a boy he attended #90 Country School before graduating from Garnett High School in 1941. Charles was united in marriage to Rita Burroughs on July 17, 1954, at St. Patrick's Church in Emerald, Kansas. This union was blessed with eight children. Charles was a farmer and he enjoyed raising a large garden and tending to his pecan trees. Charles was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Emerald, serving on various church committees over the years. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Joseph, Luke, Omer, Edward, Benjamin, and Bernard Wilper; and three sisters, Katherine Hermann, Florence Randall, and Cecelia Reiling. Charles is survived by his wife, Rita Wilper, of the home; sons Rex Wilper and wife Debbie of Garnett, Kansas; Billy Karl Wilper and wife Dianne of Garnett, Kansas; Charles Anthony Wilper and wife Angie of Wellsville, Kansas; Lee Wilper and wife Monica of Harris, Kansas; Paul Wilper of Harris, Kansas; daughters Rose Marie Wilper of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Mary Ann Morgan and husband Tim of Westphalia, Kansas; Julie Holloran and husband Marty of Garnett, Kansas; a daughter they raised as their own, Michelle Meiwes of Moran, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. Patrick's Church in Emerald, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Emerald. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at St. Patrick's Church, with visitation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church Building Fund.
