Charlotte Joan Owens, 73, of rural Humboldt, Kansas, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at Greystone Residential Care in Iola. Charlotte was born February 27, 1942, in the Neodesha area, the daughter of Clarence J. and Ruby I. (Jarred) Owens. The family lived in LaHarpe a short time before moving to a farm east of Humboldt. She attended Central Avenue Grade School, graduated from Humboldt High School in 1960 and attended Allen County Junior College. On June 26, 1960, Charlotte married William "Bill" Owens at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They made their home in Iola before moving to their farm northeast of Humboldt in 1978. She worked a number of years at H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory and retired as a bookkeeper for the SEK Health Department. Charlotte was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt where she served as the church organist when she was younger. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening. SURVIVORS: Her Husband: William "Bill" Owens of the home 4 Children: Richard Owens & wife, Susan of Humboldt, David Lee Owens & wife, Joellen of Neosho Rapids, KS, Teresa Owens of Humboldt and Robert Owens & wife, April of Gas, KS Her Mother: Ruby Owens also a resident of Greystone Residential Care in Iola 2 Sisters: Phyllis Boan and Marilyn Bumstead & husband, Ron, Jr. of Humboldt 11 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandson & 2 Great Grandchildren on the way She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Owens. VISITATION & SERVICE: Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt with visitation an hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas MEMORIAL: St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
