Edith Christine Craig, 86, of Garnett, passed away November 29, 2008 in the Long Term Care facility at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett. Christine was born October 6, 1922, on her grandparents' farm in Anderson County, the daughter of lnez Pearl Bishop and Raymond Emory Wooton. A sister, Nora Josephine Wooton McNabb and her parents preceded her in death. Mrs. Craig was a member of the Parker High School Class of 1940, attended Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and graduated from Ottawa University with a BA in education. Mrs. Craig taught elementary school in Linn and Anderson counties for a total of 37 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and was a Sunday School Teacher. In retirement, she was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Miami Co. Area Retired Teachers Association. She was also a quilter and had been a member of the Quilt Guild. She married Glen Walter Craig in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1989. Her daughter Verda Jean Craig Hemphill, son-in-law Mark E. Hemphill, granddaughter Sherry Baker and husband Joshua Baker of Newton, nieces, nephews and friends survive her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Garnett. Burial will follow in the Goodrich Cemetery. Mrs. Craig will lie in state after 9:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
