Clara Dorothy Peine, age 93, of Richmond, KS, passed away June 20, 2009 at the Country View Nursing Home, in Prescott, Kansas. She was born July 18, 1915, on the farm at Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Jane (Strobel) Setter. Clara was born first, weighing two and a half pounds, followed by the surprise of another baby, Ann who weighed only two pounds. Twins were very unusual, and their mother kept Clara and Ann in a shoe box to keep them warm. If it were not already summer, the twins would not have survived. Clara was united in marriage to Clarence Joseph Peine on June 13, 1942 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence J. Peine; one daughter, Jane Dorothy Davis; one grandson, Marvin Lee Davis; six sisters, Elizabeth Setter; Mary Platt; Katherine Hess; Cecelia Rubick; and Helen Lutz, and Ann Dyrdek; three brothers, Bernard Setter; Mike Setter and Anthony "Tony" Setter. Clara is survived by two sons, Eugene Edward Peine and wife Anita of Garnett, Kansas; Joseph John Peine and wife Barbara of Fulton, Kansas; two daughters, Mary Cecilia Pracht and husband Dave of Westphalia, Kansas; and Darlene Blaufuss and husband Jim of Richmond, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Beverly Talley, Brenda Guthrie, Tammy Deardorff, Chris Peine, Angie Scott, Timothy James, Dale Pracht, Dana Foltz, Wesley Blaufuss, and Melissa Durossette, and ten great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with burial to follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends on Tuesday evening following a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the church in Scipio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Country View Nursing Home.
