Clarence Wesley Henderson Jr., age 95, of Neosho Falls, Kansas, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Clarence "Junior" Henderson was born on March 8, 1928, in Neosho Falls, Kansas, the son of Clarence Henderson, Sr. and Eva (Weiland) Henderson. He grew up in Woodson County, Kansas, and a short time in Yuma, Colorado. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, his junior year of high school, and served for two years spending time on the USS Blue Ridge, USS Renville, and the USS Bexar, off the coast of California at San Diego. Clarence was honorably discharged on October 30, 1947 when he received his WWII Victory Medal and returned to Yates Center High School graduating with the Class of 1948.
After graduating high school, he went to railroad school to be a telegrapher. He returned to Kansas and began his Postal service career where he worked until retiring in 1984, having served 36 years.
Clarence was an outdoorsman, he loved nature especially the mountains. Clarence had a passion for hunting, fishing and gardening. He planted a pecan grove along the Neosho River in 1959 that he tended to until age 92.
Clarence was united in marriage to Opal McCullough on May 3, 1953, in Neosho Falls, Kansas. They were married for 63 years until her passing, on January 16, 2017. This union was blessed with one child.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal Henderson on January 16, 2017;
Clarence is survived by his son, Terrence Henderson of Belton, Missouri; and his companion, Kimberly of the home and their two furry friends, Mr. Winston and Sir Rawleigh; Kimberly's children, Matthew Doolittle and Alexandrea Thomas; three grandchildren and one soon to be born; and a half-sister, Linda Flores.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Iola, Kansas. Family will greet friends at 9:30 A.M. prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place at Cedarvale Cemetery, Neosho Falls, Kansas.
