Clarence Marvin (Tuffy) Hydorn, 77, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, at his home. Clarence was born October 20, 1933, at Garnett, Kansas, the son of Pete and Edna (Harper) Hydorn. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 and served in the Kansas Army National Guard for many years. On December 18, 1954, Clarence married Alice Marie Skinner in Iola and they made their home in Iola. He worked for the railroad, then Humboldt Brick and Tile before starting work with the Iola Fire Department on September 10, 1966. He retired on December 31, 1993 with the rank of Chief, a position he held since 1986. His wife, Marie, preceded him in death on June 24, 2008. Clarence was a member of the Iola American Legion and he enjoyed fishing, building and flying airplanes. SURVIVORS: 2 Daughters: Joyce Wright of Iola, KS and Karen Winner & husband, Mick of Iola, KS 1 Brother: Carl Hydorn of St. Edward, NE 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, step-father, infant brother and granddaughter, Tracy Vest. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL: Kansas State Firefighters Association Auxiliary Scholarship Fund Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
