Claudia Melissa Mullins, age 78, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett. She was born on May 16, 1933, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Claude H. and Margaret E. (Lind) Stainbrook. She was one of six daughters. Claudia was united in marriage to James L. Mullins. This union was blessed with five sons. Twin sons were born in 1960, who died shortly after birth. She started singing at the age of 3 and always loved music. She played piano and she and 3 sisters sung at all types of gatherings at different churches in the area around Uniontown, receiving several awards. Claudia accepted Christ as her Savior at a Uniontown Camp meeting and was baptized at the age of 12 and became a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. She graduated from High School on her 16th birthday and went to work for Western Insurance in Fort Scott. After marriage, she did secretarial work at Graham School and Garnett High School. Later she became interested in antiques and had a shop at her home, also selling at the Garnett Flea Market for 20 years. Claudia has been a member of Chapter Y, PEO since 1970. Claudia spent 50 years singing in the Methodist Church Choir and also singing for many weddings and funerals. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters Stella Irene Carpenter; Marjorie Brooks; and Florence Littrell; as well as a foster brother, Gene Wells. Claudia is survived by her husband, James Mullins of the home; three sons, Michael B. Mullins and wife Elisa of Meriden, Kansas; Steven K. Mullins and wife Susan of Longmont, Colorado; and James Brian Mullins of El Dorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Nancy House of Altamont, Kansas; Neva Coberley of Aurora, Missouri; dear friend Kristina Wells; grandchildren Miranda Mullins; Audrey Mullins; Ian Mullins; Elsa Mullins; Isaac Nemcek-Kranz; and Deleana Mullins; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett.
