Clem Jude Gellhaus

d. October 19, 2013

Clem Jude Gellhaus, age 56, of Mayetta, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka, Kansas. Clem was born on October 6, 1957, in Garnett, Kansas. He was born the smallest of the nine children born to Bernard and Elizabeth L. "Betty" (Lickteig) Gellhaus. He quickly overcame the slow start in life and grew to be 6'7". Clem liked to eat, however he hated lumpy mashed potatoes. He loved thick milkshakes and Schwan's ice cream. Clem was a "doer", this applied to everything he did, even sports. He was more interested in playing football or any other sport than watching it. He was always outdoors; indoors was for eating and sleeping only. His favorite activities included hunting, fishing and trapping. Clem graduated from Paola High School in 1975. After high school, he began working construction and as a farm hand. He began working at Wolf Creek in 1980 as an electrician. He worked there until 1985. He then worked for Alber Electric, South Kansas City Electric and then for Huxtable Electric. For the past 12 years he has been a member of United Steel Workers Union, Local #307, working for Goodyear Manufacturing in Topeka. Clem enjoyed dirt track racing, and was a member of Steve Hageman's pit crew. Clem will be missed for his jokes and stories. Like Clem even his woodworking projects were larger than life, one of those projects included a large bridge on his property. Clem was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Betty Gellhaus. He is survived by his siblings, Cathy Burson and husband, Bill, of Paola, Kansas, Peggy Gellhaus of Gardner, Kansas, Lester Gellhaus and wife, Vicki, of Lyndon, Kansas, Jane Adams and husband, Chuck, of Leonardtown, Maryland, Susan Jones and husband, Steve, of Paola, Martin Gellhaus and wife, Carolyn, of Burlington, Kansas, Cindy Hardy and husband, Garren, of Olathe, Kansas, Bart Gellhaus of Greeley, Kansas, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Scipio, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.feuerbornfuneral.com
