Clyde Gerdsen

Clyde E. Gerdsen, 70, of Iola, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Clyde was born March 30, 1938, on a farm north of LaHarpe, Kansas. He graduated from LaHarpe High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. On September 1, 1962, Clyde married Donna R. Johns and they made their home in Iola. Clyde drove a truck most of his working life but worked several years at Haldex before retiring. He liked to golf and fish. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher and was instrumental in organizing the sport here in Iola at Riverside Park. SURVIVORS: Wife: Donna Gerdsen of the home 2 Sons: Mike Gerdsen & wife, Vicky of LaHarpe, KS, and Tom Gerdsen of Derby, KS 2 Daughters: Teresa Rose and husband, Richard of Broken Arrow, OK, and Tammy Rinehart of husband, James of Derby, KS Mother: Minnie Smoot of Salina, KS 2 Step-Brothers: Dean Smoot of Vassar, KS, and Paul "Bud" Smoot of Lyndon, KS 3 Half-Sisters: Shirley Leroy of Chanute, Marcella Smoot of Salina, KS, and Aleta Flaherty of Salina, KS 8 Grandchildren & 1 Great Grandchild He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Gerdsen. VISITATION: 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, with the Rev. Steve Traw officiating.
