Clyde V. Woods, 97, of Humboldt, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Diversicare in Chanute, Kansas, following a brief illness. He was born September 13, 1920 to Roy Austin and Sarah Elizabeth (Brownfield) Woods in Bonne Terre, Missouri. During World War II, he served in the Army in the Philippine islands as a crew leader in the artillery. He married Mary Patricia "Pat" Phelan on May 26, 1946 in Emmett, Idaho. Together they made their home in Emmett until 1949 when they moved to St. Paul, Kansas. In 1953 the family moved from Chanute to Humboldt. He worked for several service stations, and later gave 33 years to Monarch Cement in Humboldt, where he retired as a Production A Utilityman. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and woodworking projects. He and Pat traveled to many different casinos, where they liked to play the slot machines. Later in life he enjoyed spending time on his front porch, where he waved at everyone who passed by. Survivors include his children, James Woods and wife, DeAnna, of Humboldt, Daniel Woods and wife, Lori, of Humboldt, Gail Bauer of Independence, Kansas, Kathy Butler of Humboldt, and Jan Baker and husband, Roger, of Humboldt; 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and one sister, Ruby Eisenbrandt, of Chanute. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, in 2011, and by children, Clyde V. Woods, Jr., Donald Woods, David Woods, and Jean Johnson, a granddaughter, Tiffany Michelle Woods, his parents, and by seven siblings. A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Humboldt.
