Joan Baugher

Joan Baugher, age 89, passed away in Springfield, Missouri on February 17, 2023.

Joan was born on November 30, 1933 in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was the second of five children born to John F. Schafer and Annabel M. (Myers) Schafer. Joan grew up in Fort Scott, Kansas and graduated from Fort Scott High School. On August 31, 1952, Joan married E. Duane Baugher in Iola, Kansas, where they first made their home. Their union was blessed with two children, Wade Baugher, and Karla Meyer.

Joan was an avid quilt maker, bird watcher, and a great cook, known for her chocolate chip cookies and apple pie. She loved to entertain her friends and family, and was especially fond of hosting Christmas celebrations. Joan was adored by her entire family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Barbara Mattingly.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, E. Duane Baugher, of the home; two children, Wade and wife Janet Baugher of Antioch, Illinois and Karla and husband Mark Meyer of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris Baugher of Beach Park, Illinois, Kerry and wife Tracy Meyer of Linthicum Heights, Maryland, Michael and wife Heather Meyer of Chesterfield, Missouri and Erin and husband Eric Okeson of Chicago, Illinois; seven great-grandchildren, two brothers Charles Schafer of Wellsville, Kansas and David and wife Margie Schafer of Richards, Missouri, one sister Phyllis Smith of Maize, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan's family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m Friday, March 3, 2023, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
